Firstly, it is important to understand the basic concept of mining. Mining is the process by which new coins are created and transactions are verified and added to the blockchain. Miners use their computers to solve complex mathematical problems, and in return, they are rewarded with new coins and transaction fees.
One of the most significant differences between Bitcoin and altcoin mining is the difficulty level. Bitcoin mining has a higher difficulty level compared to altcoin mining. This is because Bitcoin has a fixed supply of 21 million coins, and as more miners join the network, the difficulty of solving the mathematical problems increases to maintain the average block time of 10 minutes.
